Oh yeah! I’m a dork.

Tradewars - I’m really old.

I’ve always loved the game Tradewars. It’s been a favorite ever since I jumped onto local BBS systems oh so very long ago. Well guess what I found? A PHP clone of Tradewars. Actually, I found two. The first is Black Nova Traders. It’s pretty true to good ol’ Tradewars and I was so enamoured with it that I installed it on The Hedge Maze. Give it a whirl here.

The other one I found was based on Black Nova Traders. It’s called Alien Assault Tradewars. I’ve had a bit of trouble building a universe with more than 1000 sectors so I’m going to hold off releasing my server for now. I’m building a set of routines to manually populate the database and that’s quite the undertaking. To be honest Alien Assault Traderwars is a much better implementation of features. The one feature I REALLY want to have is ship classes. Alien Assault has it. Black Nova doesn’t. Ah well.

Have fun. Let me know what you think.

I am happily rising to the top of the charts, thank you.

Yes you are! And I imagine you’re using the time tested method of tons of holds and methodical use of trade routes.

I think I’m going to have to send some more computer controlled folks off to hunt you down.

I have reasonable transport capacity, yes, and I have used it to build up my resources. I haven’t neglected armament, though.

Yeah, you probably don’t want to do that. Mwahahahahaha!

    Sizz,

It would be feasible to ramp up the activity in the BNT game by announcing it on the BNT forum.

I am the ruler of all I survey.

You are getting pretty established. Have you run into any of the AI controlled players?

  8. Sizzly January 16th, 2004 3:27 pm

Based upon the logs, I would have to say, yes you have!

I don’t recall ever seeing a computer-controlled ship, any devices deployed by said ships, or even any “Last ship” traces from AI ships. From my point of view, I have the galaxy to myself.

Well, you’re the only player who has deployed more than 5000 fighters around a sector and one of the AI opponents slammed into such a world and was instantly vaporized. Check the news if you don’t believe me.

    You’re so evil.

Ahh! Just rechecked. Seems I whacked “Furangee Quinak”, whoever he was. He should’ve paid the toll, I suppose.

Out of curiosity, are there ANY ore ports in the galaxy. I’ve seen a lot of Goods, Energy, and Organic ports, and I’ve even mapped two Special ports, but I’ve yet to find an Ore port.

  13. Sizzly January 16th, 2004 3:49 pm

You had that many fighters set to capture a toll?!?!??! Damn, boy!

There are what, 8 AI’s? That’s what it looks like from the “Place Bounty” drop down list.

Apparently Captain “Kex” also met with an accident today, although I don’t think that was my doing.

As to the size of my toll garrison, I wanted anyone thinking of attacking the planet that supports them to have an idea of just what awaits the foolish.

Incidentally, Sector Defenses apparently don’t deteriorate when you have a planet in the sector to support them.

There’s about 8 AI’s still floating around but I can always add more. MWahahahahahaha!

Kex ran into one of his cohorts and was destroyed by an AI player.

Sector defenses don’t deteriorate if they’re supported by a friendly planet that produces enough energy to support them. So! If you own the planet you should be able to put a good number of fighters in orbit.

Have you hacked in to see what I’ve put in my “Home” system?
