This isn’t a problem limited to Chaos.  Oi!  I’ve drawn blood on the Kabal.

Force Organization

So I have a game scheduled against K and (I think) his dreaded Salamanders. I’ve fought ‘em once before and if memory serves, I didn’t do too badly. But it’s been a long time so I can’t even recall his organization. All I remember is to be VERY careful of Deep Striking Terminators.

Now I have one disadvantage that there’s not a whole lot I can do about. I haven’t even SEEN the new Space Marine Codex. I’ve no idea what nasty tricks are available under the new rules. I do know that Salamanders no longer have the I3 vulnerability but that’s not really an issue against the Dark Eldar so while he might be excited about it, I still ALWAYS get to attack first in an assault. It’s the other stuff that I’m concerned about. And I’m also not terribly familiar with 4th edition. Oi! Well, nothing I can do about that so…

If memory serves, K’s Salamanders tend to deploy fairly defensively and advance steadily. I think that’s going to be my bonus. If he opts against just static defensive positions I should have NO problems whatsoever out flanking him and taking his army apart little by little. I also think he’s a little light on vehicles so that should allow me to concentrate my Dark Lances on his Terminators (Oi! He’s going to LOVE that. Heh!). Now if he IS light on vehicles I need to decide if I’m going to replace my AV wyches. I love ‘em to pieces but they’re usefulness is a bit sketchy unless there’s a number of vehicles to kill. Haywire grenades are pricey so losing those points may be rough. But I love ‘em and if he DOES have any vehicles they’ll ruin his day. Besides, they do have two blasters so the squad’ll be useful against just about anything. And now I can use assault weapons AND charge with zero penalties so… Okay. I’ll keep ‘em.

The rest of the army will follow my latest doctrine - FAST. I think all of my squads except for one sniper squad will be equipped with a transport - split between Dark Lances and Disintigrators. The Ravagers will probably be equipped with split weapons ’cause the new rules really put some teeth back into the Disintigrator when they’re on the move.

I’m still considering what to do with my Lord. It’s 1850 points so I could opt for an Archon. That might make him squirm a bitsy (assuming he doesn’t have anything that’ll squash an invulnerable save…)

And tonight or tomorrow I’ll let you know how it goes.

Eldar Online is Deader than a Doornail

eo newsire

Well, for all the fact that the forums where shlock and the content was a bit lame, it was an eldar site and they DID deal with the Dark Eldar a bitsy (more than even GW!!!!), it’s a damn shame they’re gone.

Good thing I didn’t bother to get off my ass and submit stuff, eh?

Battle for Hive Totalis

This is too funny! There’s an event at DP to battle against other stores for glory. There’s a long thread of garbage but Eric, who might even surpass me in causticness on the DP forums posted this and I almost spit coffee all over my keyboard:

K says, “Although I’ll be recovering from a batchelor party from the night before.”

And Eric replied, “Well, that is showing the DP spirit. Rob T drunk, you hung over, both of you playing armies of perverts… I can’t think of a better way to duplicate the experience of being part of DP in only a couple games.”

For the record, I’m the Rob in question. All my DP events have at least a two drink minimum.

Waaaa..ack!

Last night a force of Speed Freaks fell to the awesome devilry of the Kabal of the Malebranche. It was a glorious game of carnage and slaughter that only two super fast armies can indulge in. First, we were playing “Ships in the Night”. The basic gist of this scenario is that two forces clash as they pass in opposite directions. So mobility is particularly valued in this scenario. The scenario was great as our forces tried to out manuever each other and we ended up classing on two fronts (more on that later) and bloody slaughter ensued. Additionally, we were playing on the smallest game board that DP has to offer. That meant that the action started early and maintained momentum for the full game.

Ulimately, I won by eleven victory points. ELEVEN!!! It was a very close game. However, we only played to turn four and if I may say so, I think I could have cemented a major victory if we’d been able to play our last turn.

Family Friendly 40K

The Danger Planet forums have recently taken a severe turn for the worst. Evidently, Brian, the owner of DP, has started cracking down on what he calls “non family friendly” content on the board. I suppose this is defined as anything that could be construed as offensive. Unfortunately, this appears to include any criticism of another visitor to the site or anything that a four year old shouldn’t see.

To make matters worse, he’s issued jack boots to his moderators and they’re gleefully excercising their new authority with abandon. Hell, I’ve even been told to remove my sig generator because it’s “not appropriate for a family friendly site”.

Clash with the Imperial Guard

Last Thursday I had the opportunity to try out my list for the Danger Planet Summer League. It’s an 1850 point list and to be perfectly honest, I’m pretty happy with it. I played Suicide Squad against Mike Pinault’s gloriously painted Imperial Guard army and while he score a handful of victory points above me, I think that the primary reason I lost was due to my first turn of shooting.

You see, I didn’t scrap ANYTHING with the vulgar amount of fire power I was able to level at his army and that wasn’t a good thing. It was a close (and tense) game throughout and I’d love a third chance to try and make the score a little less one sided (I played against his Necrons last league and I was squashed).

Haemonculi Coven Guard

I’ve always thought it was kind of silly that Haemonculi weren’t able to have some sort of retinue choice. Now I certainly understand why Haemonculi covens don’t have their own special rule set. Dark Eldar are not played extensively and it would be a nightmare for the GW game designers to craft rules for every possible zany idea a player wants to field. I actually think that the DE list is flexible enough (considering the 2nd edition updates) to field any kind of DE list that one might wish to construct. They Wych Cult certainly requires their own special rules but I think a Haemonculi Coven can be adequately represented with the existing Kabal rules. All it takes is a little bit of imagination to apply existing rules to some model conversions so that Haemonculi Covens are as rich as their Kabal and Cult cousins.

So with that said, I’ve decided to publish my Coven Guard rules/concept for your edification and enjoyment!
