Deval Patrick for Governor
So whilst hanging out at Faniel Hall (that’d be in Boston, kids) quite some time ago, I signed a petition to keep gay marriage legal in Mass - much to my co-worker’s chagrin. As it turns out, they’ve added my email address to their contact list. So now I’m getting LGB related political announcements.
And one has caught my fancy. If I pony up $100 for Patrick’s campaign I can attend a party at the Westin in Copley Center. I have to say, the concept is intriguing. I’ve never been to a political fundraiser before. It might be fun.
As a side note… If I could come up with $1000 I’d be invited to a fundraiser with Bill Clinton the week after… Alas, a bit to dear for my pocket book.

Isn’t harmonize a pretty word to use as they trample privacy rights?

The diety who stalked the deserts of the Middle East millennia ago - and who seems to have abandoned them to bloodshed in his name ever since - is no one to consult on questions of ethics. Indeed, to judge him on the basis of his works is a highly invidious undertaking. Bertrand Russell got here first: “Apart from logical cogency, those who think that an omnipotent, omniscient, and benevolent Deity, after preparing the ground by many millions of years of lifeless nebulae, would consider Himself adequately rewarded by the final emergence of Hitler and Stalin and the H bomb.” This is a devestating observation, and there is no retort to it. In the face of God’s obvious inadequacies, the pious have generally held that one cannot apply earthly norms to the Creator of the universe. This argument loses its force the moment we notice that the Creator who purports to be beyond human judgement is consistenly ruled by human passions - jealousy, wrath, suspicion, and the lust to dominate. A close study of our holy books reveals that the God of Abraham is a ridiculous fellow - capricious, petulant, and cruel - and one with whom a covenant is little guarantee of health or happiness. If these are the characteristics of God, then the worst amongst us have been created far more in his image than we ever could have hoped.

It’s a new world record! Exxon Mobile just announced their quarterly profits and evidently they’ve posted an increase in profits this quarter higher than any publicly traded company in the US ever has! If memory serves it’s something in the 75% range. I bet their CEO is just creaming himself over this tidbit of news. One MIGHT argue they have every reason to be proud of that accomplishment.
Of course, one then realizes, “Hey! It’s __ing Exxon! Those fuckers!” I gotta wonder at the hubris of announcing something like that in the wake of hideous increases in the price of gas. Increases that are being shouldered by their consumers. And the folks hurt the most by this incessant price gouging are the poor and the middle class, those least able to afford the cost of Exxon’s best quarter profits.
But wait! Fourth quarter is going to be really tough on ‘em. It sure as hell better be! I’d hope that everyone who reads the article gives ‘em a huge fuck you and buys their gas from someone else. If they were able to make such a huge profit over the past couple of months then their feeble justification for kicking up gas prices was obviously a load of crap.
Fuckers.

But spokesman Bryan Driver said there was no evidence linking the higher suicide rate with the long tours of duty and frontline fighting Marines have engaged in Iraq.
Nope. No correlation at all. None. Nothing to suggest that at all.
I’ve got one word for you, Bryan: Fucking Bullshit.
